It happend during The Louisville KY Show USA Mick's own story : Well all I can remember about the broken arm incident was that it was the first night of our American tour. We always had a black carpet on stage and as per usual I came running out on stage at the end of our intro tape full of energy and the lighting trusses were a little more foward than I had anticipated and I fell into the front pitt 6 feet below. This time I hurt my left arm really badly which looked like it had been dislocated.

I was dragged back up and I carried on the show in great pain. I did not know but somebody had organised for a nurse to come to the stage and see what the damage was. This happened in between Davids announcements. Meanwhile to kill the pain there was a bottle of Remy Martin brandy on my side of the stage that came in very handy. Thenurse checked out my arm which was very painful and I carried on the show with my mate Remy. At the end of the show I felt no pain until I put up my arms to salute the crowd still wearing my guitar I lost my balance and down I went again this time breaking 4 bones in my right wrist. I remember laying in hospital and a lot of the fans had come from the show and managed to get into the emergency room where I was waiting to be seen by a specialist doctor. Those floppy plastic doors with porthole type windows in them had what seemed to be an endless stream of faces peering at me. I had to wait for an eternity for the doctor and as well as having a very sore left arm and a broken right wrist I was beginning to get a hangover too!!!

Eventually the doctor came and before I knew it I had our manager Gerry Bron sitting on my chest and nurses were holding down my legs whilst the doctor pulled my wrist up and placed it into a spring like device. He snapped the bones back into position. It was then and only then they could give me anything for the pain. The next show was in the Detroit Cobo Hall I think and although I said I would be able to do the show I wasn't 100% sure but there were a lot of people reliant on me so I had to give it a go. I knew that if I turned up the amp pretty loud I could do most things even though my left arm was sore and seeing as I have a rolling style of playing I could get a pretty good representation with a few adjustments.

Holding the pick was difficult due to the plaster cast going between the index finger and the thumb. Lifting my right arm up and down had its moments and it had been organised by the Promoters to have a nurse / doctor give me 3 injections a night for pain. One before I went on stage, one whilst on stage and one when I came off. Sometimes the nurse / doctor could not stay for the whole show and so they gave me a huge booster shot. When this happened we had to delay the show until I was ready and I had returned back down to earth. I must say that without realising it I really started to enjoy the light show. Normally that is the furthest thing from my mind. Any way because during the shows my arm would swell and the cast would begin to break I had to go to the hospital after each show and have another cast put on. This went on for 3 months. In the mornings the swelling would reduce and the cast had lost all effect once again and this can only be described as being like an elbow in a warm room.

So off to the hospital for another cast. I must say the things you see in an emergency wards in a hospital at the times I paid a visit were horriific. This made my problem seem very insignificant. We eventually had a break in the tour for a holiday and Lee and I went to Jamaica. I still had the broken arm and I spent the majority of the holiday standing in the shallow end of our private pool overlooking the sea with a plastic bag on my arm while Lee went swimming, scuba diving and fishing etc. After about two thirds of the holiday gone I went to the local hospital and had the cast removed. I was most surprised that the doctor was from Bournemouth England where Lee was born. I was so happy to have the cast removed but I needed a lead weight to keep it down by my side where it belonged as it kept wanting to float up toward the sky. When we arrived back at our accomodation I was elated and I dived straight into the swimming pool to cool off fully for the very first time. Underneath the water I did the first breast stroke and I thought I had broken my wrist again as it hurt badly. There was no need to worry and I eventually put some weight back on the arm and everything was fine. I still get the odd twinges but I think back to those emergency rooms and all is fine. I hope that this explains things okay and to summarise it was not the best night I have ever had on tour and with a damaged left arm, a right wrist broken in 4 places, a few knocks on the head, a hangover and 2 guitars smashed I can borrow a line from Alice Cooper and truthfully say " Welcome to my Nightmare." 'Appy Days, Mick Box

In early 2007 drummer Lee Kerslake had to leave the group due to bad health. They are currently looking for a new drummer.
