Been here many times now, not knowing what to say.
I never met Jim and there is nothing what will give any comfort or softenes
the pain .
Stay strong and Remember Jim in all the good he done for You all.
I'm Sorry .
Uriah Heep, Jim's family, Sandra, and Jim's friends .

What a terribly sad e-mail to be writing. I've not been able to log on to the site for a while and I hope this message of condolence is not too late. I was very saddened to see Jim's photo at the bottom of the page, with dates superimposed. Indeed, it was quite a shock, as Jim's face at soundchecks, stageside and aftershows had become well known to me: he had been part of the Heep family for all the gigs I have attended, bar my very first. He seemed to have had a knack for quickly gettings things fixed for Mick without ever looking flustered, even mid-song. A rare talent! I hope his family may take some comfort from the affection with which Jim was regarded, as these messages testify. It's his friendly smile we remember most, and that speaks volumes.

Another good man gone...I talked to Jim
only once, but I think he was a very warmhearted and nice guy. A great loss
for the band and his friends. I think,Iīll sit down and write some lyrics
for(about) him and mail them to you.
I canīt imagine a Heep concert without seeing him working around on stage
and in the back.
Jim, we all will miss you!!

Mani

I'm very sorry for Jim passing away. I met him in Akersberga, Sweden in 1999. We talked about Heep's playset. I got some nice photos of him playing flipper there. A girl I know shouted to me: "There he is: Phil Lanzon!!" She thought Jim was Phil, seeing his long hair from his back side when he stood there at the flipper board.

I saw Jim also on a ferry between Stockholm and Helsinki. Heep was playing on the night club scene. And the fans was crazy. One heavy boosted idiot tried to enter the scene twice in the middle of the show. Jim warned him and next time Jim placed his boot in his chest and kicked him right back in the crowd where he stayed after learning some respect.

I saw that Jim on the rehearsel in Akersberga was very concentrated on his job. He must have been a very hard working man. And on the rock boat  the night after the gig when the boat was turning back to Stockholm when we met Bernie in a bar, suddenly Jim was there and showed Bernie a bottle of wine he had fixed for him.

I can sure understand that this must be a very great loss for the group. I hope that Mick and the boys still ceep their working spirit high after this shock. Making more good rock music is a good way to relieve the sorrow. I think that Jim would have apreciated a hard work on the next studio CD.

We are shocked and saddened.

For us, Jim was a miracle - a fantastic person, a part of Uriah Heep
who helped us into the world of Uriah Heep.
Memories of Jim go back to gigs in Holland, Germany, Norway, Belgium
and England.

Certainly, Jim means a lot to Mick and the band, and he has a special
place in the hearts of the fans as well.
Jim helped make great shows possible.  He not only took good care of
Uriah Heep,he took good care of us.

We are pleased and proud to have met Jim, to have known him and will
miss him.

Our sympathies to everyone who knew and worked with Jim, especially his
family and close friends.

Janice & Henk

All German fans and of course all fans around the world knew the friendly Jimbo.
I have to tell you that we are all very sad about his death and we will keep his memories alive.

JIM WAS MY YOUNGER BROTHER ONLY BY A YEAR. SUCH A LOSS TO ME AND MY FAMILY.
I HAD THE GREAT FORTUNE OF GROWING UP WITH JIM, STARTING SCHOOL AND WORK TOGETHER, WITH MANY MORE MEMORIES OVER 46 YEARS, WHICH I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE. MY CHILDREN, SALLY, LEE AND KATHERINE MISS HIM TERRIBLY.

HE HAD SO MUCH PATIENCE AND LOVE FOR THEM AS HE DID FOR EVERYONE. MY SON SAID "WHY UNCLE JIM, MUM? HE WAS SO EXCITING AND SUCH GOOD FUN". WHEN VISITING US IN SOUTHEND IN BETWEEN HIS TOURS WITH THE BAND HE USED TO TAKE THEM DOWN TO THE SEAFRONT TO PLAY BINGO! ONE OF HIS SECRET PASTIMES.

I REMEMBER IN OUR TEENS WE USED TO PLAY THE GUITAR TOGETHER AND ALTHOUGHT I FIRST TAUGHT HIM WHAT I KNEW, HE SOON FAR SUPERCEDED ME. I WOULD LIKE AT THIS MOMENT TO EXTEND MY PERSONAL THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE SAID SUCH KIND AND COMFORTING THINGS ABOUT JIM. IT HAS GREATLY HELPED EASE THE TERRIBLE PAIN OF LOSING HIM.

THEIR WILL NOT BE A DAY THAT PASSES WHEN I WILL NOT HAVE JIM IN
MY THOUGHTS AS HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE SINCE I CAN REMEMBER.

I LOVE AND MISS YOU JIM

FROM HIS SISTER  BARBARA. X

We didn't know him very well; we just saw him e few times at the gigs.
What we do know is that if someone, who has been an part of your lives
for so long, almost suddenly passed away, the place he left behind is to
big to fill.
There will be a emptiness for a long time, and we hope that the family
and te band will find the strenght to cope with it.

We wish the loved ones who stayed behind all the strenght and  wisdom
for the future.

Jan Martin & Thea

Dear people of the Uriah Heep community,

We at YesFocus would like to express our deepest feelings and thoughts for everyone of you when losing someone like Jim Hughes.

Although we never knew him, it is always a sad thing to lose one of those people who work every day so hard backstage, never be in the spotlights... He was one of those people who keep bands like Uriah-Heep and Yes on the road these days.

We are with you guys, please remember that.

I am very glad I had the chance to meet Jimbo this summer in Inianapolis and Chicago. He was very nice and seemed very content with what he was doing. We stayed up late at the Hampton Inn in Chicago after the gig and all were sitting around chatting. Jimbo told the story of them being on the road in one of those European countries ;-) Anyway, they were towing a trailer with the band's equipment behind them, and at some point in time, the trailer fell off and they didn't know it had happened for a bit. He finally got suspicious because of the vehicle's different handling charactaristics and pulled over. The trailer was gone and nowhere to be seen! So they backtracked, expecting the worst, and found it had slid to the side of the road, but it was still upright and all the equipment was ok. He was really good with a story, and I enjoyed his tales of the road very much.

Even though I didn't get the chance to know him well, I feel grateful that I got to spend a small amount time with him this summer. God Bless you Jim, and may you rest in peace.

Thanks for a great time.

Recently we heard that Jim Hughes, Mick's right hand for many years sadly passed away on New Years Eve.Very, very sad news. Jim was so much a part of Heep on tour! Always a kind word and an absolutely great sense of humour. We've been to every single Dutch Heep show since 1984, to many other shows in Germany, Belgium and the UK and to us he was part of "Heep", something that to us, is more than just a great band, they represent friendship and warmth. Chilling to know that Jim will no longer be part of this. We remember his stories about touring, his joys in life, his laughs and most of all his kindness. We'll miss him and will never forget him. He sure was special and he's in our hearts!

In the late1970's Jim (the fuse) was the Very handsome singer/frontman in our then
Rock Band  'Hoochie Coo'. A lovely laid-back guy with a certain panache. He was
always great fun,  and we all really enjoyed our time together in the band . I'm not at
all surprised that Jim did so well with Mike Box and the boys, as he was much liked
(and loved) by all those fortunate enough to have known him.

"Wherever he has gone,........I'm sure he will charm their socks off!!!"

Spending at least a day in HEEP company means getting to know the crew.
Jimbo, a big man with a big heart, a mane of greying hair and a smile rivalling that
of Mick's. He was such an important part of the band's enotourage, always
somewhere near - handling the gear, sharing a joke. Serious to a bit on-stage
and the warmest kind of bloke once the curtains go down. The fastest
picture of Jim springing to my mind is of him strumming a guitar backstage before the
show, then, when a sound burst out and the band are in action, Jimbo asks
me to give some advice to the lighting guys and bends to let me take the crew badge
off his neck. He was the one you could rely on and will be missed
immensely. My condolescences to his friends and family. Rest In Peace.

Jim was a lovey and warm-hearted person who added something special to Uriah Heep tours. He had a special ability to keep the Uriah Heep family together and make us feel a part of it. It is hard to realise he isnīt around any more. We miss him terribly. We can only try to imagine what itīs like for those nearest to him. Our deepest condolences to them.

Anotherone gone....

hmmm... I'm not sure - but I think it was 1993 at the Stuttgart-Longhorn,
when had my first chance to meet the Band. Mick told me in an e-mail,
that I am very welcome backstage and that it should be no problem to
get there. "And if there is a problem - just ask for Jim.... "

After all - It was a problem. Too many stupid securities kept me away
from the band and their members. I had a print-out from Micks e-mail in the
pocket and handed it to the boss of the security in order to pass it to Jim Hughes.

I was very angry at that state of moment. After about half an hour - while I was sitting
at the bar to fulfill my anger with Jack-Daniels-Cola, while the roadies were alreday
breakin' down the equipment - an guy came up to me and said " ...are you Thommie Mueller?
C'me on ... Mick Box wants to meet you, man...". He smiled at me, gave me a "clap" on my shoulder and took me "backstage".  He seemed like an angel comig through all that chaos during the breakdown and he led me all the way to my first hug with Mick.

In those days, I did not know, who the angel was - today, after a lot of other meetings through the years
I know, that this was "Jimbo", who gave me the first smile at that evening....

So, I became one of the honored people, who recieved the pleasure to meet Jim Hughes for a lot of times.
Even that I really didn't came to "know" him - I can understand, that there is an empty space in the Heep-family now that Jim passed away. The stages in this world will be a little more emptier without him.

I try to give my condolences to his family, to Mick and the Band and to everybody who will sadly miss him.
Maybe now - he is another part in the great Rock and Roll club above- but the universal wheels must - and will -  turn without him.
