I had the pleasure of seeing Uriah Heep
perform at the Rock Fest in the 4:15 time slot.
I attend this
festival every year and was so excited to find
out that Uriah Heep would be performing. One of the
first concerts I ever went to was in '72 when Heep
played at Pecatonica, IL and I had not seen them since '75
or so when they played in Chicago and opened the show
with Stealin'.
I told Mick Box at the meet and
greet after the Cadott show that I blamed them for getting
me addicted to rock music and going to concerts.
He got a good laugh from that. They played a bit over
an hour which was not long enough to me because they
sounded so great. What a rush it was to hear Bird
of Prey,Gypsy, Stealin', Easy Livin', Look At Yourself,
July Morning, Sunrise, and everything else that day.
I was
so impressed with Bernie Shaw's singing and
stage presence. Mick was just tremendous on lead
guitar and is quite the showman, too. The whole band
was so tight which is understandable since this line-up
has been together longer than any other Heep configuration. It was a real honor to hear
them again live after so many years and I communicated this
to all of them at the meet and greet.
They
announced during the show that they would be doing a meet
and greet afterwards which received a tremendous
response. I waited for a long time to get through
the line, but it was well worth the wait to get a picture
signed by all of them and to get a chance to chat briefly
with each member. They were most cordial which
was just as impressive to me as the show they had so worked
so hard at on a hot day. Long live Heep...I
have been a fan for years and will always be one...now I am
just hoping that their successful tour of the states
will keep them coming back in the future...
