Uriah
Heep - Sunset Station Hotel/Club Madrid
08-10-01 - Greek Theater 08-12-01.
This
not a review of Uriah Heep’s performance
those nights, because all the accolades
given to this band are true enough and
rightly deserved, but they can not
adequately reflect the power and emotions
Uriah Heep are able to conjure up.
This
instead is a Thank you. Thank you Mick,
Bernie, Lee, Trevor and Phil for your years
of dedication to making your dreams come
true and allowing the rest of us to come
along on your musical journey.
Somehow,
even saying thanks doesn’t seem to be
enough to sufficiently express my personnel
gratitude for your North American tour and
years of making great music. Maybe the one
fan at the 08-10 show in Henderson NV, who
after the performance was openly weeping in
Mick’s arms best expresses the dedication
and heartfelt loyalty we true Uriah Heep
fans feel for this band.
Bernie
said on the last night in LA, “We saved
the best for last”, but I have to disagree
and believe that the best is yet to come.

I
had arrived at the theatre early since I
live far from it so I was there when Heep
arrived.
Bernie came out & was taking some
pictures & then Phil came out. I
referred to him as Mr. Majestic & asked
him if he was going to do the song Mr.
Majestic. He politely commented that the
show was going to be short but sweet.
IT R-O-C-K-E-D! HEEP WAS PHENOMENAL TO SAY
THE LEAST. They had just done a show on
Friday In Henderson Nevada; Saturday in San
Diego Calif. & here it was Sunday &
they were ALL pumped up
& ready to Rock. The crowd was small but
Heep had everyone standing & singing
along. No one wanted them to leave. They
were great from the opening of Return to
Fantasy to the end of the show.
UNFORTUNATELY;
after about 45 minutes, the show was over
but I KNOW this was NOT Heeps fault at all.
I had not seen Heep since 1980 &
although it was short; it was worth every
minute of it. I hope they come around again
soon & I would like to say that all the
people I met were great people also.
BIG Thanks to Dave Owen
for taking the picture of Mick & I after
the show.
Heep fan since 1972 ....

What
a great show. Unfortunately, it was
much too short and no encore.
But
I was totally blown away when they played
"July Morning". That was the
song that started it all for me in '72.
It's really too bad they had to open the
show. It could have been 4 hours of
"heep" for me.
It
appeared as though the small crowd was
overwhelmingly "Heep" fans.
And my wife was sure I was the only Southern
California "Uriah Heep" fan.
Met some great people, keep on rockin',
J.J.
