UHAS Mini Mag By Dave Owen
June 6 1999
Hello All
I'll do this article now as tomorrow I have the interview with Lee to type
up and I have to press on with the mag before all the Heepsters not on the net start writing in asking where the mag is !
It seems like an age ago now since the 4 gigs in the Benelux , I must
publicly thank Louis and Diana for putting us up for the night after
Dinxperloo. We clocked up neigh on 2000 miles for the five days and all the gigs were excellent as usual. It was very tiring , but you just can't help
looking at the gigi list and thinking well, maybe the USA isn't that far
away :o)
Thanks to all who sent in the questions for Lee , I'm not going to ruin the
suprises , but , goats and farmyard animals never got a mention. Gerry Bron on the other hand ...................... well lets , for now , say Lee is
not a big fan !!! Ozzy's manager Sharon also received a few choice words !!!!
As always , I seem to have had so much time with the band , but finding the correct time to ask the questions is so difficult . They have so many
demands on their time that answering questions can seem well down on the list of priorities. In fact , they were left until the last day , and I
felt like I was intruding grabbing Lee for 10 minutes prior to the gig ,
and after felt like we could have gone on for ages . I'm glad I didn't wait
until after the Luxembourg gig , as the RTL gang including old friend Honey B Benson, who was around at the time of the 1977 Golden Lion Award , all turned up and a vast amount of alcohol was consumed (wasn't it Pete :o))
Nothing co-herant would have come from that night .
Most memorable concertThe Sex Pistols 1977 Newport Village , Shropshire . The sheer energy and raw power of that concert was incredible , you had to be there , nothing since has touched it . A real electric atmosphere.
Fave non Heep related Album Constantly changes , I love a good melody, and listen to a wide range of music . Mainly at the moment American Power Pop , but my collection is so wide spread I can fit every mood I'm in ! I was born in 1960 and my formative years were through Glam (Wizzard were my faves then) Disco , I used to do a disco in my youth and still do when needs must, and punk too ! The only constant factor being Heep , who through thick and thin have always been there . My CD collection is currently around 4000 cds , I need a bigger house.
I have a love of live music and will see if possible 1 band every week , in
the local clubs they are mainly covers bands , but its fun , Aerospliff ,
Ballroom Glitz etc .
Fave Heep SingerJohn Lawton closely followed by Bernie , I never saw
the Byron line-up and I think that has a baring on my faves . That has to
be the biggest regret of my life , not seeing David and Gary perform .
Fave Heep album Still Firefly !
I'll start getting a few more jpegs on to the Heepquarters pages soon ,
theres so much to share with you guys , you'll love it. I'll sign off now
and hope to join in the Heep chat tomorrow , were you can ridicule me to my
face :o)
Cheers DaveO.
